Root slowing to a crawl then playing all around a straight one kind of shows why it's only certain kinds of players who can do it; even if everything is in your favour as far as the bowling, the pitch and the match situation goes, unless you score fast you'll just get worn out before you get there.

There are quite a few instances of people scoring very slow 300s though. Hanif Mohammad in particular comes to mind.
