More that there are no other bowlers in the squad. Abbott hasn't done anything to deserve another game and that leaves Carey and McGurk as the only other fit players in squad

By default I think. Wasn't picked as one in the squad but with the balance of players they have available that's the role they've needed him to fill

It's dumb though he is at best a batsman who can bowl an over here or there. Even then he's nowhere near good enough to be in a national squad. He's basically a slightly less bad Beardman-like selection.
