No idea, honestly. In primary skillet of bowling (which tends to be many's default for these kind of comparisons) Ashwin is a street ahead of Botham.
I'm not sure if people apply the primary thing to Botham. He seems to be assessed as an overall package.

IDK where people who want primary draw the line at looking at overall package though. Botham? Dev? Pollock? Ashwin? Wasim? Warne? Worse? Drawing a line anywhere feels very arbitrary to me.

It is forgotten that up until the mid 80s that Botham was a very good bowler. He did damage his legacy by bowling dolly drops for the last few years of his career. Ashwin has obviously been a consistently good or better bowler throughout his career. It isn't particularly close with the bat, though.
