Who's better?
Closer than the poll suggests?Very close
Nah, should've been much more one sided just for their away record alone, besides cook was an opener.Cook cooks Mahela
Well that seems fair and balanced.Mahela's SENAW record is a massive hole in his stats, Cook's home stats don't work as a case against him at all
The start of Cook's ageing phase coinciding with the early 'pace pandemic' years as an opener coupled with English conditions getting tougher finished him off.Jayawardene had a 17-year career, while Cook played for 12. Also Cook was weak against left armers
So did Mahela, to be fair.Cook's done some monumental things outside England.
So basically he wimped out and then went on to play 6 more seasons of county. Unlike Jayawardene. The start of Cook's ageing phase coinciding with the early 'pace pandemic' years as an opener coupled with English conditions getting tougher finished him off.
Jayawardene one of the ATG batters in Asian conditions though.
Mahela would very likely have suffered the same fate in Cook's shoes. Hardly known for being a good player of lateral movement. So basically he wimped out and then went on to play 6 more seasons of county. Unlike Jayawardene.
Its not like he was forced out for being ****. He just straight up quit like a baby and kept bashing domestic attacks for years. Not quite as bad as Swann but still.Mahela would very likely have suffered the same fate in Cook's shoes. Hardly known for being a good player of lateral movement.
Pretty sure Mahela averaged like 55 after 12 years. To say it’s not close is pretty silly. Mahela is absolutely around the same level as guys like Cook and Pietersen.Jayawardene had a 17-year career, while Cook played for 12. Also Cook was weak against left armers
I think he was fatigued as well as declining in a tough era. Batting was more strenuous to him than Root. Its not like he was forced out for being ****. He just straight up quit like a baby and kept bashing domestic attacks for years. Not quite as bad as Swann but still.
