So what happens to the five odd blokes that got tripped? Do they get pushed through or is it just tough luck goodbye?

He believed the only man he had to beat was Kerr and given his best was 2 seconds faster he adopted that strategy. But that best was done with a pacemaker which is exactly what he turned himself into. He left himself a sitting duck. Would’ve been better off leading but gradually winding it up, not going full on from the start.

I’m still not entirely certain how Hocker turned around previous form with Kerr who seemed to run the perfect race really. But it was a fantastic and immensely intriguing race.
Hocker ended up running a race better than any time Ingrebrigsten ever achieved. And Kerr also ran a PB, not to mention Nugese. There were just some phenomenal speed and running shown by the other runners, so the the "strategic failing of it" seems to me to be likely overplayed. On another day he might have completely worn out the field with his frontrunning, the way he did to both Kenyans Cheriyout and Komen en route to a rather fast time himself.

Argh almost a carbon copy in the 400m with an American running past Hudson-Smith on the line, and a silver with a PB and national record

Not quite enough for Matt Hudson-Smith, another close finish we fall just on the wrong side of.

I don't know if it's just me, but it looks like he has a very awkward running style

Yeah awkward but still the fifth fastest time ever!

I said watching them heats that the 400m was insanely fast, so that proved.

Right on the line.

I feel that's about 10 golds team GB have lost right at the last.
Timed events we've come a very close second in (7)

Josh Kerr - 1500m
Matt Hudson-Smith - 400m
Adam Peaty - 100m breaststroke
Matt Richards - 200m freestyle
Ben Proud - 50m freestyle
Women's Four
Men's Pair

Other events where gold was definitely on the cards/very close (5)

Women's shooting
Women's windsurfing
Men's BMX freestyle
Mixed triathlon relay
Men's golf

That's 12, excluding a few like the canoe slalom events, BMX racing etc that were a bit more of a tossup.

Whereas the close ones we've won (4ish):

Women's team sprint
Women's quadruple sculls
Men's mountain biking
Men's triathlon

So definitely a little on the unlucky side overall. But that's sport.

And while we might not have had the rub of the green this time, it's been a great watch
