The point is other than Murali and Warne who have gaping holes in their records (in the case of Murali arguably larger than Ashwin), the fact that we kind find any modern spinners with better records than Ashwin says it all. And throwing in Laker, Verity is laughable because it’s not like they had to play across the diversity of conditions
They did. Any spinner has played across the same diversity as Ashwin because he gets pulled out of the team in half the conditions.

if ashwin takes 12 more wickets in aus, he will be the 2nd best overseas spinner in terms of wickets to ever play test cricket in australia

kumble is the only other spinner in the top 10 from this century

averages 4 wickets per test. will probably easily get there if he gets all 5 games this year

Bold stating that for someone like Laker, who never played in an away series where a spinner wasn't the highest wicket taker, and plot twist; he wasn't even once. In his best away series in which he took 15 wickets in 4 matches @21 (same as Jadeja), which was Australia, Benaud took 27. In SA where he was horrible inept and got 11 wickets, the least by any front line bowler on that tour, Tayfield got 37 and Wardle 26. In both his WI Series, the highest wicket taker were Ramadhin and Wilf Ferguson. So he played even fewer percentage of his matches away, on top off three series being in quite a short window, all in bowling friendly conditions.

Its not about Laker in particular. Its about Ashwin lol. Trying to hype up his away record is stupid.

You replied to a comment about how Verity and Laker played in as diverse conditions as Ashwin. That's why I replied that it's particularly not true for Laker. Somewhat for Verity, but he gets a bit jacked off here nowadays. A 3.42 WPM for a spinner is kinda bad, also averages 34 in Australia. Don't get how he could be considered better than Grum, who averages 5.32 WPM.

Maybe instead of worrying about overrating Ashwin, focus on not trying to overrate some third-rate hacks for only being mediocre when they could've been good.

^ Can you try and be less of an idiot? Nice to see your your commentary expanding beyond insular and provincial prejudices of the sub continent to include international and historical dimensions.
