Dude, I don't know what it is, but every time you vote for Imran, I feel like doing the opposite (despite me probably being the biggest Imran fanboy on this forum )Seems we agree overall then

i need to work on my messaging then...Dude, I don't know what it is, but every time you vote for Imran, I feel like doing the opposite (despite me probably being the biggest Imran fanboy on this forum )
It's away drift. Ask @Migara about it.Heard Barnes used to bowl a delivery that used to swing out and spin in at the same time.
BS. Swing and spin can never happen together. Physics > Barnes.Heard Barnes used to bowl a delivery that used to swing out and spin in at the same time.
Yep, not possible by anyone except Vaas, arguably Hayden too.....Heard Barnes used to bowl a delivery that used to swing out and spin in at the same time.
Murali got drift only he was bowling at his absolute best. When you see him getting it, you know he will end up with a bag. In Colombo against India he got a 8 for with drift and dip, and another in England. There was not much instances I can remember he drifted and dipped like a proper finger spinner in other times.Yep, not possible by anyone except Murali, arguably Hayden too.....
What do you mean by that?Yep, not possible by anyone except Vaas, arguably Hayden too.....
Did Barnes bowl off breaks? As far as I know off spinners get away drift. It's away drift.
Swann got much away drift as Shane Warne got in drift.Yep, not possible by anyone except Vaas, arguably Hayden too.....
Nope. Medium pacer by most accounts, fast leg spinner by some.Did Barnes bowl off breaks? As far as I know off spinners get away drift.
He bowled cutters, which are essentially fast offbreaks or legbreaks.Did Barnes bowl off breaks? As far as I know off spinners get away drift.
I never noticed if Mustafiz got the drift with his off cutters.Mustafizur Rahman comes to mind as an example of a bowler who consistently does that.
He put the "fizz" in Mustafizur. Really quite an awesome limited overs bowler in his peak, for mine.I never noticed if Mustafiz got the drift with his off cutters.
Swing needs backward spin to stabilize the seam, and this will push the ball little further than expected. Spin needs forward spin which makes ball to drop a little shorter than expected (dip). So awing and spin cannot occur together.Swing requires a stabilized, upright seam, with an axis of revolution pointing across the width of the pitch. Spin requires an axis of revolution pointing across the length of the pitch. They're incompatible within the same delivery.
Whereas drift and spin happen in the same delivery all the time. The language used to describe these phenomenon was less precise during Barnes' time, so this explanation makes more sense to me, than Barnes breaking physics.
What about swerveSwing needs backward spin to stabilize the seam, and this will push the ball little further than expected. Spin needs forward spin which makes ball to drop a little shorter than expected (dip). So awing and spin cannot occur together.
Swerve just another name for drift, innit. What about swerve
A flipper might technically be able to do this. Bowling it fast enough to swing and then grip on the pitch to turn just seems highly improbable though.Heard Barnes used to bowl a delivery that used to swing out and spin in at the same time.
Yeah, as flipper has back spin to it, it might swing I guess if bowled fast enough. But flipper, if spins, spins away from the batsman. And I think grimmett was the first bowler to actually bowl the flipper.A flipper might technically be able to do this. Bowling it fast enough to swing and then grip on the pitch to turn just seems highly improbable though.
