What, lying to the world?
8-)

His problem was he wasn't lying to the world. If he'd come out and denied everything like every other ball tamperer ever has done he'd have been fine. Probably missed a game at most. Instead he tried to come out and tell the truth (not the exact truth but close enough) and even took on more blame than he really deserved if anything.

Williamson's already had a 'slump' in his career anyway, by virtue of being picked when he was not ready, as NZ lacked other batsmen.

Despite a debut century on a road in India, he averaged only 30 from his first 11 tests and was struggling enough that the unthinkable of dropping him was discussed.

Test 12 felt like a turning point even at the time - he scored a match saving not-out century at home against South Africa. It involved about 4 missed chances and being hit in the nads by Dale Steyn - career defining. "I'm not going to apologise, Kane, I'm not going to apologise".

After that his place in the side was secure and he's never looked back, averaging 55.4 from test 13 onwards. A minor dip in form around the time he took over the captaincy but has recovered now.

The chat about Pope in the match thread made me think of this old one… where does he end up do we think?

As far as 'Absurdly Awesome Cricket Stats" go, doing it the first time after 147 years is not as awesome as Australia scoring 400+ in each innings 6 times, 3 of those against England 😀

Done 12 times: Australia 6, India 3, South Africa 1, Pakistan 1, England 1

Australia only team to do it away from home (in England and NZ) and only team to do it without being dismissed in either innings with 6(dec)/511 and 8/460 vs New Zealand in 1974
Who will be the next team to do it again? (can be a repeat team) And for a bonus bet, who will be the opposition?

Kuldeep will end up with less Test matches than Bumrah
Jaiswal will end up with a higher average than Brooks but less runs
Green's career average on both fronts will be better than Stokes
Shamar Joseph will end up with less than 100 wickets
Rachin Ravindra will not play more than 30 Tests, and that will be still more than Jamieson
Ashwin will end up with more wickets than Kumble
Rizwan's Test average will end up to be more than Pant
Litton will not score another Test century
Rashid Khan will score a Test century
Tristan Stubbs will end up with a 40+ average

Anyone interested to take these on?
