It's crazy how he pulled away from the second tier of English pacers at an age when bowlers usually retire. Until 2016ish you could reasonably argue that someone like Bedser or Snow was better but now he's closer to Trueman and arguably better.

It is reasonable to call him an English ATG rather than a world ATG, which he clearly isn't.
mm I’m just thinking of the English bats I’d definitely have ahead.. Hobbs, Hammond, Sutcliffe, Hutton, Barrington, Boycott, Root, May, Compton, Cook, possibly Pieterson and Cowdrey. Yeah guess he’s around that level.

I can't really speak about the first few but am aware of their records. Of the players that I've watched, he is roughly equivalent of Cook different eras, pitches and quality of bowling. Don't think Cook could have played some of the innings that Gooch did against the lineups he faced in the early 90s (the pace dominated attacks), but Cook levels that up with his performances in Asia.

Wood replaces Jimmy for second test.

It's one big **** off to Jimmy. Disgrace by Key,McCullum and Stokes.

When Wood,Archer,Stone, Atkinson, Tongue and Robinson are all injured next November. Coupled with Woakes not selected because he's like Samson when they cut off his hair, when he's got a red kookaburra

Who they going to select? When it appears we have no intention of picking Pennington and Potts.

Yeah, what happened to moving Jimmy aside to give the young players experience?
Was that just a complete lie?
Wood's got lots of fruitful years ahead for sure. Lots of potential to tap into

Look at James Anderson: still going strong at 41, would surely still be Test calibre if he hadn't sadly chosen to retire of totally his own volition. No reason Wood can't do the same.

I like Wood but what's the point in binning Jimmy for him for the current summer tours? They really should have just let Jimmy go when he wanted to go.

It is shameful in fairness, and on top of that it indicates that the brains team hasn't got a clue. what they're doing beyond coming up with random 'ideas' for the sake of it. Complete farce.
Also, Jimmy shouldn't have accepted the coaching appointment immediately.

I think the issue is more atkinson and wood playing in the same side. Atkinson played as a 1st change seamer in that windies test, if your making him or wood take the new ball are you really trying to win the series? Why not bring in potts and play one of atkinson and wood? You don't need all 3 of stokes, atkinson and wood in the same XI given how i've seen each of them operate.

I'm wondering if Anderson in his new role will still bowl in the nets to help test the batting lineup? Could still very well show them up.
