I really wish Murali would have done better in Aus. I wouldn't hesitate to call him the best bowler ever. It feels really bad to have to look pass that mountain of wickets.
Want to be clear that Murali was just amazing, and any player that is a lock for any of the top two ATG XI's and in the eternal argument for best spinner ever is up there. But to have been taken to the woodshed as he was against two opponents and dominated as he was by one rival isn't in that absolute top tier for me, as Viv was. And just note, that top tier is literally 8 players and, again, just my take.

And don't get me wrong, I fully understand the situation in Australia and it was at best unfortunate, but...

Anyways, I can make an argument that Viv is the best after Bradman, better than I can that Murali is the greatest bowler ever.

Not saying others can't, but that's my perspective.

I voted all tests, and so did quite a few.

That aside, Murali was also an odi top performer.
I voted ODI+Tests, or else Viv won't had cracked my Top 10, not even close, let alone top 6. Sure there were a few like those.

Murali was ATG in ODIs, but he was the Barnes to Viv's Grace, that one wasn't close.

I can looked past Murali against India since he dominated them at home and had at least a moderately good series in India in 2005.

But Murali was pretty anodyne in Aus, especially in 2007 when he toured there. Even a nice fifer there would have made me think he had the tools to be effective everywhere.

@HouHsiaoHsien has made that argument countless times the past few months.

Arguably the greatest peak in the history of the game, ATG series vs the best bowlers of the era, the ability to turn matches and series in a session. Arguably one of the top 3 players of fast bowling in history, he dominated WSC, his home and away split, the consistent quality of bowlers faced. His peer rating is off the chart and the vast majority of the bowlers of the era rates him not only the best, but the only one feared.
