It's impossible, two completely different cricketers
How so? ODIs (sadly) have been a declining format ever sinceAgain, as an 8 year old for whom it was the defining cricket moment, I disagree. It's impact was staggeringly more than you're giving it credit.
Not quite sure about that, but winning that World Cup is easily one of the Higgs of Indian cricket. How so? ODIs (sadly) have been a declining format ever since
Amongst several othersNot quite sure about that, but winning that World Cup is easily one of the Higgs of Indian cricket.
Depends what you mean by save really.....Amongst several others
But it didn’t save Indian cricket
Perspective please. I said that in comparison to whatever **** Stokes has done, please look at the context......Dhoni saving Indian cricket is such a load of bs what the **** are you guys smoking ?!
Oh don't get me wrong stokes saving test cricket is equally if not more nonsensical so fair enoughPerspective please. I said that in comparison to whatever **** Stokes has done, please look at the context......
Then disagree on that. Stokes is very heavily inconsistent, a great innings here and there; great. But his consistency is ****. And more so with ball...... Dhoni retrospectively gets downplayed a lot. He was great in the SC and had no major flaws in his record except in Australia. And I hate the downgrading of his keeping skills more infuriating. Yes, he wasn't as good as Saha; less athletic and dynamic. But he was as safe as they came, ATG stumper and a great game reader. Stokes is marginally ahead in Tests, more overrated than Shakib.Stokes >>> Dhoni in tests. Stokes not an ATG or anything but far better and more important than his stats imo.
Stokes is a below average bowler (have the ability to lose a WC with his bowling, now doesn't ball in ages) and above average bat (the best I can say of someone averaging 35, likely to go down). Won't be surprised if he ends with Bothamesque batting figures......Well shakib is not overrated at all so I disregard your entire post.
Dhoni was about average at everything (batting, keeping, captaincy) in test cricket.
Would you rank Rohit ahead of Stokes? (Just asking)For me the decisive factor is that Dhoni is a top tier ATG in one format. Stokes can’t claim anything within miles of that in either format
If anything he was at least slightly overrated as captain! He was great-ish till the 2 new balls rule came into effect and after that he didn't really adapt as well. He had great control when the ball got soft/slowed/turned but not so much with flatter wickets post 2011/12 especially after Yuvraj/SRT and the core of the WC winning team declined. Which is not to say that 2 new balls rule's great - it's not, it's arguably the single biggest factor in the downfall of finger spinners in this format and making it almost extended T20 on super flat decks/small grounds.Dhoni retrospectively gets downplayed a lot.
Did you forget his record in Eng? It's even worse one could argue! The bigger issue I have is that it (2011) made him bigger than the team, Amarnath was going to sack him after the 2011/12 away tour debacle and that would've been nice IMO. We needed fresh faces/better leadership at the top. He could've stayed as LO captain but tests we should ideally have moved on from him. This in turn led to Kohli overextending his stay as cap for a year or two post 2019 WC as well.He was great in the SC and had no major flaws in his record except in Australia.
I actually agree as a captain Dhoni is slightly overrated, massively by the general public. And his English record is definitely really good. 37 average and 8 50s, with a great match drawing knock, arguably his very best.If anything he was at least slightly overrated as captain! Do you mean his bowling game to game or more in general? Then disagree on that. Stokes is very heavily inconsistent, a great innings here and there; great. But his consistency is ****. And more so with ball......
