Rank batting and bowling ARs based on their secondary disciplines

Did it? Don't think that is reflected in the record.

Which is why you should give Miller more credit. He was the closest to make it sustainable.
Yes it was, especially after he became fully emersed in county cricket in '68? @peterhrt had a post about it. It also forced him down the order, that in itself is hurting the team, he was brilliant at 4, possibly his best position.

He averaged below 40 and how many wickets a match?

On average he bowled 252 odd balls a match. Looking at his stats when he bowled above that..

41 matches 70 innings 3517 @ 59.61 12 tons 17 50’s

and at or below

52 matches 90 innings 4515 @ 56.44 14 tons 13 50’s
As he got older it was harder. Also was factoring in the ridiculous first class schedule and burdens.

Additionally he started batting down the order more.

I really do get why you don't get Viv, believe it or not, not everything can be found in a spreadsheet.

The large majority of those matches were later in his career so yeah that doesn’t track.

Mate we’re never gonna agree on Viv but I don’t get my feathers all ruffled whenever you mention him lol

Here is my list:

1. Sobers' bowling. Regular 4th bowler. Slight edge over Imran based on bowling load he took.
2. Imran's batting. Scored runs in most countries, just got better and better, was a standard bat by 80s standards.
3. Jadeja's batting. Needs more showings away to get ahead.
4. Flintoff's batting. Batted no.6/7 at a high SR. Dangerous bat.
5. Kallis bowling. Started out as a standard bowler and declined, but overall consistent returns.
I think you are vastly overrating Flintoff's batting.

Unless they are considered mixed allrounders, some not mentioned yet

Faulkner's bowling
Goddard's bowling
Shakib's batting
De Grandhomme's batting

Botham, Miller, and Imran's batting are all very close, and I'm not sure where you would draw the line to exclude one or multiple of them as a "balanced all-rounder".

Honestly I'd have Miller and Botham tied, then Imran right behind them, and then you could choose any batting all-rounder's bowling as I don't think it matches the level of any three of these batting.

If he's required to bowl a lot of overs in a game then it's more likely that it was a more batting friendly wicket. Therefore having a higher batting average in those games shouldn't be a surprise. Same with bowling less overs meaning less batting friendly conditions and lower batting average.

So those stats still don't rule out that him over bowling didn't hurt his batting.

Flintoff better with the bat than Kapil for me.
There’s zero case for this other than subjectivity

Similar average at a MUCH easier time for batting.

Fewer centuries per test

Fewer iconic innings

Played in a better lineup

Lower strike rate (and you actually agree SR matters)
