Yeah rating players based on ceilings is fine but then you have to be consistent and also rate Gooch higher than Root

Gooch has most runs in all of cricket

Not saying they are unfair, just that I believe his record would improve significantly with more matches there.

One thing that gets ignored is that he had to debut pretty early as a 19 year old which hurts his stats quite a bit (a bit like Wasim Akram)

Since Root’s debut, I think KW averages 60+ with a 50+ overseas average while batting at #3. Not too bad.

Hard to say. Has 5 tests in SL/India this year. Will be interesting to see how he goes.

40 test hundreds is a possibility as well but I think NZ don’t play enough tests. He should reach 10k runs.

Was talking about average as Williamson's average is 54.98 and smith's is 56.97....if Smith cannot perform as an opener then Williamson can take over with a higher average.
