Full credit to Afghanistan but have to question NZs prep. Since the end of the NZ home summer the XI that played today have played a combined total of 55 T20 games in 3 months. Boult and Mitchel account for 29 of the 55. Allan, Conway and Phillips all no games in that time and Williamson with 2. Hardy ideal for 4 of your top 5.
Though Rachin really shouldn’t be in the frame for T20, might have been the better pick opening given he’s had some time in the middle with CSK. Wouldn’t have changed the result, but says something about NZ’s willingness to stick to a script no matter what.

Probably the one side you don't want to face in Guyana, and this is with a wet ball.
Helped that NZ, and still with 30 balls left, don't care about NRR and want to lose by as many as possible. Been awful.

Also watching Conway keep poorly again, I can't believe we haven't picked a wicketkeeper especially with tough pitches.

Anyhoo, cheers Afghanistan. With runs on the board that attack is serious business. They’ve punished teams that played better than NZ did today, so no surprises.

Pretty big gamble from NZ to go in without warmups given their 2 toughest games were scheduled first up. Puts the proud tournament record in some trouble now.

Handy win for Rashid Khan of the Guyana Amazon Warriors.

With that win and that NRR I'd say Afghanistan are pretty safe unless their match against PNG gets rained out.

Our game v the Windies becomes sudden death. Ideally for NZ, Afghanistan will go through unbeaten.

Didn’t watch the first innings but mind goes back how well Ronchi kept at times on turning pitches in the 2016 T20 WC. Since then it’s been mostly downhill with glovework in white-ball, though Latham was acceptable enough for a long while.

the proud record of winning one tournament out of like 8 or 9 chances since 2007?

Was referring to making it to the semi finals or more without fail in the last decade of WCs, you’d have to go back to 2014 when NZ didn’t get to that stage in a world cup. I think that’s a record to be proud of given what the previous decade was like for NZ cricket (and how international cricket is increasingly all about the big 3).

Can understand the “nothing counts if you don’t win the tournament” POV, and if that’s what you’d live by, go right ahead.

Was always on the cards that kind of performance after NZ opted for no warm-ups, & only 2-3 of the team played the last T20 series in Pakistan.

Hard to see them beating the Windies, so odds on we're now out of the tournament.

That said if we can somehow scrape in the super 8s I think we'll then go deep.

Incidentally, how horrible is Conway's keeping and wouldn't Allen (or anyone else) be a better option? This isn't the first time he's looked village with the gloves.

Just accidentally saw the score after trying to avoid spoilers while I was working this afternoon.

Oooof.

After all that, I don't think I'll even bother watching it!
