Actually on second thought I am going to switch. I think this situation suits Kallis moreso. Waugh is more for situations when you are 5-down for nothing and need to recover.Steve Waugh followed by Kallis.
There's only one thing in cricket where I prefer Waugh, and that's statpadding selfish notouts by running out partners.Actually on second thought I am going to switch. I think this situation suits Kallis moreso. Waugh is more for situations when you are 5-down for nothing and need to recover.
Lol I think Waugh gets put with that accusation a bit unfairly. There's only one thing in cricket where I prefer Waugh, and that's statpadding selfish notouts by running out partners.
Chanderpaul > Waugh at this task. There's only one thing in cricket where I prefer Waugh, and that's statpadding selfish notouts by running out partners.
Chanderpaul vs Waugh is like Osama Bin Laden vs Abu Al BaghdadiChanderpaul > Waugh at this task.
I can think of at least 2-3 situations where Kallis had to bat out for a draw. Not so for Waugh.Of the 3 Kallis was the better bat, Waugh seemed to have better discipline though, so close between them.
Coin toss, but possibly Kallis.
This tangentially rates to discipline so why not. (Rough numbers for Miandad)Of the 3 Kallis was the better bat, Waugh seemed to have better discipline though, so close between them.

Pretty good numbers for MiandadThis tangentially rates to discipline so why not. (Rough numbers for Miandad)
Average balls faced:
Kallis - 103.23
Waugh - 86.39
Miandad - 99.43
Average balls faced in 4th innings - this is the really rough one for Miandad - since SRs usually can be very different in the 4th innings, I have no idea what his 4th innings SR was.
Kallis - 66.13 (not out 31.91%)
Waugh - 46.32 (not out 22.58%)
Miandad - 78.92 (not out 31.82%)
4th innings draw stats i.e saving a match
Kallis - 6 innings 1 n.o 273 runs @ 54.60 1 ton 1 fifty
Waugh - 8 innings 1 n.o 261 runs @ 37.28 2 fifties 1 duck
Miandad 7 innings 2 n.o 275 runs @ 55.00 1 ton 1 fifty
Found it very interesting that Waugh’s not out rate in 4th innings knocks went from easily no.1 to easily no.3, despite batting further down the order.
What is he good for?Waugh
Fully played in my headWhat is he good for?
Yup pretty much confirms that Kallis is ideal for this situation of just batting and blocking. This tangentially rates to discipline so why not. (Rough numbers for Miandad)
