lol whatYeah root has been pretty underwhelming overseas. No ATG innings or ATG series. His home record is decent though.
Gooch, Cook, Gower, Pietersen, Thorpe, Stewart, Botham, Flintoff, Swann and Broad does it look like a weak batting lineup ? Not at all. 4 Bowlers - Anderson, Broad, Botham and Flintoff. A Spinner - Swann. They will cause tremors in Australian Camp.Harper was my alternative.
Correct. And their team composition is inferior to at least 5 other teams. I’d say the same if it was Australia with those players.
It's obviously a very strong side and there's enough there for them to beat anyone on their day. But it doesn't stand up well to any of the top five overall. The top four all have stronger bowling and #5 has easily superior batting.Gooch, Cook, Gower, Pietersen, Thorpe, Stewart, Botham, Flintoff, Swann and Broad does it look like a weak batting lineup ? Weak in comparison to the other 5, yes. And no bowling attack with Anderson causes tremors to any Australian. Except maybe tremors of laughter.Gooch, Cook, Gower, Pietersen, Thorpe, Stewart, Botham, Flintoff, Swann and Broad does it look like a weak batting lineup ? @PlayerComparisons has a thing for being anti-Root so nothing unusual thereVery good hundred in a low-scoring test that England won in SAF too. I think that's in his top five tons.
Wish it was since 1970 instead of 1974 and then John Snow would qualify haha.Weak in comparison to the other 5, yes. And no bowling attack with Anderson causes tremors to any Australian. Except maybe tremors of laughter.
the one who doesn’t belong there is Flintoff hiding at 8 more so than BroadGough has a better away record than Broad. Obviously volume means Broad had the better career but for a one-off tournament across conditions (which this discussion seems to be roughly leaning towards) I'd be tempted to take Gough.
Was tempted to bat Flintoff at 7 for his extra gear but he suits batting with the tail more than Knott who was like a rich man's Foakes with the bat.the one who doesn’t belong there is Flintoff hiding at 8 more so than Broad
For overseas matches John Snow is a great choiceWish it was since 1970 instead of 1974 and then John Snow would qualify haha.
wouldnt Swann at 8 offer enough? i remember him being very handyWas tempted to bat Flintoff at 7 for his extra gear but he suits batting with the tail more than Knott who was like a rich man's Foakes with the bat.
You'd have a very weak tail if second half of his career Broad replaced Freddie!
Think Swann for Underwood would be a bit unjustwouldnt Swann at 8 offer enough? i remember him being very handy
completely forgot he existed, yeah looks a bit iffyThink Swann for Underwood would be a bit unjust

Swann is also good with the bat and a very attacking spinner, his numbers were good enough for the time he played in cricket. Underwood had that rain advantage that helped in having low average.Think Swann for Underwood would be a bit unjust
Third seamer was the big call there. Went with Snow for variety.Stacked batting for England. B team would have the likes of Boycott, Cowdrey, Dexter and Hendren.
