Young players who failed to realise their potential

Jhye Richardson well on the way to this.
Chris Lynn probably deserves a shout aswell. Not his fault his body couldn't handle FC cricket, but there's a timeline where he has a Travis head type test career out there.

I really thought Kusal Mendis would be the successor to Sangakkara .
It started off so well with that match winning hundred vs Australia

Lawrence Rowe. His 1st innings was 214 and after 13 Tests he had 1266 runs @ 70.33 with 6 hundreds, including a double and a triple (12 Tests really as he didnt bat in his 7th Test).

He ended up averaging 26 in his next 17 Tests with only 1 more hundred

Does Rowe fit in this thread? From a brief glance he seems more like a marnus labushagne type player then a young gun who didn't live up to his potential. Given his FC average a Test average of 43 is probably fair for his ability?

Lawrence Rowe was being touted as the next Headley. Unfortunately he became allergic to grass which affected his eyes so his batting fell off a cliff and he failed to fulfill his potential (literally the thread title)

That's fair. I thought he was more of a marnus type "Coming into test cricket at his peak and capitalizing for a few years" type guy at a glance. I took the thread title to mean guys like pucovski who have dominated the lower level and been touted as the next big thing from the start of there career but never really lived up to the hype for whatever reaason that may be.

I was having a casual conversation about West Indies cricket with someone who’s played at the FC level for Trinidad and his wealth of knowledge was brilliant. He kept bringing up a name: Rangy Nanan

He only played one test match, with 4 wickets in his bag.

It was hard for a spinner to break into the West Indian team in those times… 1980s
