Anderson to end Test career this summer

This does give serious Groundhog vibes, pretty sure we were having this discussion 2 years ago when some bloke was telling us Saq Mahmood, would be the answer. Nothing much has changed excepting one indifferent series, we still have no seamers to replace him that can stay fit for more than 5 minutes, getting on the pitch is quite important.
Seems to me they might be shaping up to put their faith in Potts. Whereas Cook doesn't seem to be in the conversation at all, presumably on height and pace grounds.

if Potts is the answer I want a different question.

He does top the batting averages though this year, so maybe they're looking at him as an all-rounder.:surrender

Look, I don't want to do this argument again, my belief is you pick the best bowlers for now, not a fictional team in the future. Anderson is still the best for the job on his Indian form for me.

He should be retired now. Since start of last years Ashes he's played 8 Tests and has only 15 wkts @ 50.80 (best innings is 3-47)
He was the second best seamer on show in India, as you quite possibly know.

Yes, but that doesn't make him the 3rd best seamer for upcoming English summer....he's so old and slow now 😉

real legend of english cricket and it's a shame he's getting old yeller'd rather than getting to call time when he wants to, albeit business is business ig.

they do not make em with as big a motor as him anymore

I couldn't keep picking Anderson in a 4 man bowling line up as he needs looking after like a premium fast bowler might. Add Robinson and/or a Wood/Archer type into the mix and it's almost impossible situation.

If Stokes could still bowl or there was some other way to have a 5 man bowling attack then I'd have kept picking him

He's had plenty of time to make the call on his own. He'd probably still be playing at 50 if someone didn't give him the nudge.

He's been a very good bowler for England for a long time.

He was even good against Australia in one series

retiring Anderson because Robinson is a fat mess and Wood/Archer are made of rice cakes is not sound logic.

That wasn't the logic though that was the addendum.

They are half a bowler short (workload wise) with Anderson in a 4 man attack and then it potentially gets worse if you bring Robinson/Wood/Archer into that 4 man.
