Interesting thought in the replies to that tweet:
5 day games with a Kookaburra ball, but 4 day games with a Dukes.
The extra skills and game aspects that everyone agrees are needed to come into play with the Kookaburra would still be needed. It would still be no means certain that 'positive' results were gained in some of last week's matches after 5 days, so stillpossible to fight for a draw. Mind you 3 days is often enough with the Dukes.

I remember that game. It was the year Northants were cruelly denied their maiden championship by the unfair expedient of another county scoring more points than us.
We conceded 500+ in the first innings, then scored 700+, then Anil Kumble skittled them in the second innings IIRC.

We've had a wretched Spring here, it's wet and cloudy the whole time. You'd fancy the Dukes would be hooping round corners in these conditions. It also shouldn't really be possible to create such flat decks either.
But something is not right when Matthew Potts hits 149 no as a nightwatchman.

It's here to stay. Key very happy with it.
He wanted 7/14 games now talking about every game with it. Obviously won't pass with the counties.
I like that it's been different. I think every side using spinners effectively and batsman that normally would be struggling scoring runs galore isn't a totally bad thing.
Just you'd have liked more results. But weather had it's impact anyway. Had we got 8 days of play could have been plenty of wins.

Oh once again we have the canard that you only get good bowlers when conditions are totally in favour of the batsmen. If that's true, tell me why India struggled for so long to produce good pace bowlers? And Pakistan too for that matter.
And trust me, as someone who's watched far more test cricket in Australia, on flat pitches with a Kookaburra ball, than Rob Key ever has, you don't want it simply because the cricket is terrible to watch.

This has always been a problem, but worse these days perhaps, second XI games are often a mix of trialists and schoolboys against professionals. Other than a returning to fitness (hopefully) Saqib Mahmood 9 overs 1-11, who has played 3 first class games for Lancs in the last two years (120 overs in over 2 years) only George Lavelle 5 games 2020-22 has played first class cricket if you ignore Aspinwall's debut last week when he contributed less than Nathan Lyon. One player was 16 only last week (7th April). The rest apart form Lavelle and Mahmood are almost certainly teenagers. 7 without contracts, only 5 professionals. Nowadays, thanks to the rise of T20 even a second XI can be merciless and brutal against a teenager. How much good does that do anyone?

Nah be May before we see him and Stokes playing CC.
Jimmy got injured last year playing for Lancs so has spoken about not wanting to play as much. So as not to end up injured and have another poor summer for England.

Kookaburra is a **** ball & have no idea why Australia continues to use it as nobody rates it
One of its weaknesses is that it goes soft very quickly so if it’s damp, it will absorb moisture and become virtually useless
Pitches in Australia last season were ridiculously green so it moved all over the place but conditions were rarely damp

Were you reading Stuart Broad's tweets yesterday? When asked why it worked in Aus but not here he said "very different weather conditions, ground conditions and moisture levels. The Kookaburra ball swells and goes soft very quickly with any moisture".
Fair to say that conditions here at the mo could rarely be damper. If we're going to try out the Kookaburra, August would be a good time to do it.......oh!!
