How does retention work?

you get to retain 3-4 players usually, no clue if they’ll allow for more this time around with right to match auction price cards for players from previous squad if you dont do the retentions like in 2018 since no new teams will be added

they’re on certain fixed contracts, i dont remember the specifics of it but you’re only allowed to spend till a certain max amount and you’re only allowed to spend a certain amount for a player

in CSK case they will retain Gaikwad and Jadeja for sure, maybe Dube and then Ravindra. Jadeja on the highest contract, Gaikwad next best, then Ravindra and Dube is a good order of priority. anyway under the table payments and perks exist, nobody believes SKY is at MI for 8 crore lol

From what I can see they do have the option to extend the contract by 1 or 2 years for their retentions. So presumably he'd stay at the same rate unless they want to try ingratiate him to the club a bit, which I suppose they very well might.

nah if they’re retaining someone they usually pay higher, a retained player can stay till the next mega auction unless both agree to cancel the contract

in my eg Ravindra would be on 8 crore, thats a big increase on his current contract and would be equivalent to 1 million usd, lots of money for someone’s 2nd ipl season
