Better cricketer asks some important questions imo. Are we doing this Test only, or taking ODIs into account?? Or is legacy a factor??? Anyways, I am taking it as only how good they were, in which case it's Hadlee for me.

I would probably say my Top 9 is:
Sir Donald George Bradman
William Gilbert Grace
Sir Garifield St Aubrun Sobers
Imran Ahmed Khan Niazi
Sir Richard John Hadlee
John Berry Hobbs
Malcolm Denzil Marshall
Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar
Glenn Donald McGrath

Really close to mine.

Bradman
Sobers
Marshall
Hobbs
Hadlee
McGrath
Tendulkar
It's ok, you can skip Imran, you don't need to shorten your list because of it :)

However, it is odd for me for you to rate Marshall ahead of Hadlee as a cricketer but not McGrath or Tendulkar. What does the former have in his specialist skillset that the latter do not?

1. My top 7 is my top tier, we've discussed this a few days ago.

2. If someone is the absolute best in one of the two main disciplines in the sport, doesn't said person deserve a top spot? Hobbs is also there ahead of Hadlee. Hobbs was also the goat before Bradman and one of the pioneers, the original Master. Marshall is the GOAT to this day, and if I could only choose 3 players from the annuls of history to place in my team he's one of them, exactly because of the traits which placed him no. 1. Plus on top of all of that he was also handy with a bat. Marshall is ahead of Hobbs because as I've said I rate blowing as being slightly more impactful than batting.

Yeah but the reality is that Marshall and Hadlee are very close bowlingwise, so logically if Hadlee's batting can jump McGrath it should jump Marshall. Marshall's GOAT doesn't make him on another level. But hey it's your criteria.

I have McGrath and Hadlee practically even and one is totally useless with the bat. I have Marshall clearly ahead as the best. Plus the difference between McGrath and Hadlee is literally one place.

I rate Viv and Tendulkar highly, but imo it's just impossible to make valid arguments for them being greater than Imran. Marshall> Hadlee/Imran is kinda dubious too but less so.
I can make arguments for Tendulkar jumping Hadlee but Imran being a proper bat is too far.
