Ashwin the better cricketer obviously, but as a bowler I think he could make his case even better and this whole thing more clear cut by having a great series in Aus when we tour there(tho I want Kuldeep to play there more than anyone other Indian spinner).

Benching Kuldeep would be a mistake.

Ashwin needs a great series for him to make his case, but I am afraid it may be too late already.

In India.
And everywhere else he played with the press and players, for example

Lyon. Simply a superior all-round spinner.
But by your logic in the other thread, while Ashwin is ATG in Ind, SL And WI, and sub standard in Aus, Eng and terrible in SA, Lyon is substandard nearly everywhere(Aus, Eng, India etc). So isn’t Ashwin convincingly being better by a huge margin in the SC than Lyon good enough to nullify the smaller margins by which Lyon is better in SENA? Cause Lyon in a lot of these countries is at best decent, amd definitely sub standard for an ATG

rapidly coming to the conclusion that ashwin's three (count 'em, three) good games in australia might just be the most over-indexed test match performances on this website right now
Yeah, that's actually kinda true. But some posters here gives him too much pain for not doing good in Australia, when he has played the first series when he was right at the beginning of his career and second when he still wasn't matured near enough. Not saying those shouldn't count, but his those 3 games were vital for us winning both of those BGTs, especially the latter.

Oh sure they were three excellent games. But I find it amazing that "Ashwin's record in Australia is perfectly fine" and "Lyon averaging 30 across a whole career in Australia is substandard" are thoughts that people seem to be carrying around in their heads simultaneously. One of those things can be true - though I question how deep the cricket knowledge of anyone who believes the second really is - but not both.

I don't think that Lyon is substandard in Australia; but I don't think his record is better than just being good, and in his home soil, despite it being very ineffective for his kind of bowlers; is don't think it's really enough for him to be equal to or better than Ashwin. The thing many others have brought up is that, both have played 5-6 Tests together in Australia; and Ashwin has done relatively better in them. It's used not as a dig on Lyon (atleast not by me), but to suggest the pitches weren't necessarily friendly.

And this is the same logic, by which he was calling Ashwin substandard(relative to other ATGs) in Aus and Eng, and a big failure in SA.

Exactly. Substandard from an ATG perspective
