Anyway, the cope here about pitches being made against spinners is hilarious, sounds like a lot of you don't really watch cricket. Sad to see here, no wonder Test cricket is dying.

The two greatest spinners get to have a bogey team or two, or conditions in which they suck, is it? Don't see the same leniency being extended to the very greatest seamers (except draft-dodging Lillee and Ambrose who didn't play enough in the SC). Guys like Marshall, McGrath, and Steyn had to deliver consistently on graveyards for fast bowlers to qualify to their legendary statuses, but Warne and Murali get a pass for being so abject against/in India, WI and Aus. Very strange.

Not strange at all. It is because we implicitly all know that top tier ATG pacers are simply superior to top tier ATG spinners in terms of allround success, even those of the quality like Warne and Murali.

Ashwin became an ATG when he took a 5fer vs England, the poms cried about how much it spun, Ashwin called it a flat pitch in the press conference and then smashed a hundred the next day. Never forget.

Warne and Murali can keep their pretty overseas averages.

Point is if Ashwin was actually an ATG level spinner, benching him should be unthinkable in virtually any country. The fact that he is benched is just a silent admission that Ashwin is just an honest trier outside of SC.

If Murali era SL had jadeja and 4 pacers as good as the 4 India usually go over with, does Murali automatically play in eng/Aus/SA? Fyi, I'm not arguing for murali=ashwin. Just think this line of argument is stupid. Your comparing apples to oranges. Ashwin isn't benched because ashwin is bad, he's benched because India have jadeja and 4 gun pacers/3 gun pacers and the lord in conditions that aid pace more than spin.

Who cares about dumb expensive 5-150 style 5-fors anyway. He was a critical contributor to two series wins in Australia and made Steve Smith look like a n00b. Ashwin doesn’t do boring stats like a loser, he just Ash-wins.

Personally, he's an ATG. Proven his quality over and over again, even if he has his weaknesses and isn't a completely superior pick all the time. Shame that people decide that celebrating players is too difficult for them.

diminishing Ashwin because he didnt play ahead of Jadeja is dumb, the only time this consciously happened was in our last tour of England and the wtc final. if anything Jadeja has been the more affected by it

and fwiw its dumb that they didnt play more matches together, we played some absolute **** as the extra batsman whose contributions would have been equalled by having Jadeja as the extra batsman or trusted too much in the 4th pacer when that dude was someone like Hardik or Thakur. Rahane had the right idea by playing both of them together and got rewarded for it
