I think it’s been the case since the 2020/2021 BGS. Nothing new needed. You can have whatever opinion you want, it’s a minority opinion
Minority according to whom?

The asterisk is sadly very real. An ATG who gets passed over for balance reasons is no ATG at all *ducks under chappals like Dubya*
India wouldn’t have played Murali or Warne in those same situations

there’s no asterisk unless you think no spinner is an ATG

So you selected some articles praising Ashwin as evidence of a consensus that he has been considered an all-time great by the cricketing fraternity?

generally a good place to start is where top journalists (of which Greg Chappell is one) think

eh, haven't we routinely chosen Jadeja over Ashwin abroad? Granted, Jadeja's no slouch with the ball himself and adds more overall value, but as an ATG you're supposed to be undeniable. It's only because Ashwin hasn't demonstrated the same prowess abroad that mgmt even dares to overlook him in the name of balance. You think they would pick the likes of Thakur over Ashwin if the latter had proven he could deliver consistently in all conditions? No way, they'd pick both Jadeja and Ashwin regardless and be content with the three seamers, as most efficient teams have been through time.

You mean Ian Chappell. I wouldn't think Indian fans would be highlighting Greg Chappells cricketing judgment.
Gregs a serious journalist. One of the best. And what does the fact that I support Indiaor that he was a ooor coach have anything to do with it.

Forget that, this guy is seriously suggesting India would drop Murali and Warne in England the same way they dropped Ashwin.

Well, Sri Lanka and Australia didn't have the luxury of another almost equally-good spinner, with two other genuine skills to boot, to even contemplate such a drastic move. But yeah, can't fathom anyone dropping Murali, Warne, or even Kumble for that matter.

no comparison between Ashwin and Kumble

btw, I thought dropping Ashwin was mad and my point is a team mad enough to drop Ashwin is equally mad to drop Murali or Warne.
