I rate Pope even lower now than I did pre series tbh. I guess playing one all timer of an innings and nothing else is better than getting a bunch of 30s and 40s, but man he looked absolutely shocking after that first test. The level to which he pre-meditates his shots against spinners is laughable. They showed a side on angle of his batting against Kuldeep and Ashwin and he's winding up his saunter down the track when the ball isn't even close to being out of the bowler's hand. He doesn't need to be doing that at all because they bowl slow enough where you can use your feet against them effectively without showing your hand if you time it right. The shot he got out to Ashwin today was atrocious too. I have no idea how a test batsman can think it's a good idea to sweep that ball unless you've made your mind up after the previous ball that you're going to sweep it no matter what.

He exudes zero sense of calm when he walks out there even against the seamers, running down the wicket, giving the impression he absolutely * needs * to be pro-active from the get-go. Very hurried-looking. I'm pretty sure he wasn't that sort of player before McCullum.

No he was absolutely that sort of player before McCullum, have a look at some of his dismissals against Cummins and Lyon in the 21-22 Ashes.

This myth will never die. The same moronic posters (usually Kiwis for some weird reason) will keep waahhing about how the toss is so important and will ignore the evidence staring them in the face. Pretty sure 10 years from now, @Zinzan will still make posts on CW after waiting for 2 matches where the result goes in favour of the team winning the toss asking why results in India are so dependent on the toss. Can't expect any better from a weak coloned species of cricket fan though.

Australia and India have beaten them convinsingly at home and equalled a series in their home turf with England having to win from being down in the series at home. That shows England is a cut below quality teams. Weak is as weak does. They probably need to add more salt to their diet so they can show some character and be men instead of being mice.

I'm as big a pope defender as anyone on here, but is it worth England slotting Jennings in over Pope at 3 in Asia? England don't win the first test without Pope, but I feel like they would have won the 2nd or 4th test with Jennings in over Pope.

jennings was also the leading run scorer in eng lions tour of india from both sides.
averaged 52 last year in county as well. even in 2022 had a stellar season.

jennings and bohannon have been pretty unlucky, the eng selectors wont drop any of the batters, they will be given as much chances and their spots will only be in danger if and when they have a bad ashes tour.
