*Official* England in India 2023/24 #CryMoreTour

Every team should be judged on how they perform in big overseas tours. India are and rightly so. The poor performances in England over the last decade has been one of the biggest disappointments for the team.
Isn't this literally what Subshakerz loves to post about in comparisons and ratings?

root makes it over any of our number 4 batters

then either hartley or bashir if we choose a side with one pacer

mine:

Jaiswal
Rohit
Gill
Root
Sarfaraz
Jaddu
Jurel
Ashwin
Hartley
Kuldeep
Bumrah
Great XI , I feel combined XI's should be flexible as you are basically trying to fit in the best players from each side, I think it would only be right to include Crawley , he was the 3rd highest run scorer and scored tough runs..

I would ask Crawley to bat first drop and Gill at no.4 , this was a disappointing tour for Joe Root ..
He shouldn't make the combined XI just for a lack of options.

Didn’t realise that Jimmy has only taken 15 wickets @ 50 in his last 8 tests

English batting will cop the brunt of criticism but they need to sort out the seam attack

Jimmy hasn’t got much left

Woakes is a fine bowler in England but should have his passport revoked

Woods only plays 60% of tests

None of them are young either

Then you have Robinson with massive ?? plus Stokes hardly bowls

I’d be picking a couple of the younger guys like Tongue in every home test to see whether they have what it takes

Fully expect we will see Potts in the summer. Did well for the Lions against India A.

Got a couple of 6fers surprised that they didn't ask him to then join the main group.

We've been woeful in this test, it looked like a test too far for a team that has already lost the series and wants to go home.

Whilst that's understandable it was nonetheless unacceptable.

Before the series started I didn't give us any chance and that proved right, we were actually more competitive than I thought we would be.

You have to put things into perspective - winning in India is really tough for any side, let alone one that Leach apart, hasn't got a quality spinner in the squad.

Stokes and McCullum won't be judged on an away series in India anymore than India are judged on performances in England where they haven't won a series since 2007.
India drew last tour though. England lost 1-4. That's the difference.

This is the first time since the core of Kohli, Pujara, Rahane, Ash, Shami, Ishant and Jadeja was solidified under Shastri that I've felt like we're truly seeing what a future side could be built around.

We had a little glimpse in the '21 BG where Siraj, Gill and Pant really stood up but we knew many of the others wouldn't make it to the side again in the long term. Then there were some false dawns like Agarwal, Shaw, Vihari, Iyer etc, but this series has brought us a number of noobs that I think are far more likely to add on to Siraj, Gill and Pant to form a strong core. Jaiswal, Kuldeep, Jurel, Sarfaraz and to a lesser extent Akash Deep and Padikkal all seem quite promising.

Maybe the transition period won't be so bad after all.
Yeah, real feeling of "ok at least we're set for the next ten years" with this series. Genuinely not looking forward to seeing Kohli return, though he'll obviously be invaluable when we tour. The only thing missing now is for Pant to regain most of his powers because nothing's truly complete without that.

I'm as big a pope defender as anyone on here, but is it worth England slotting Jennings in over Pope at 3 in Asia? England don't win the first test without Pope, but I feel like they would have won the 2nd or 4th test with Jennings in over Pope.

Terrible but i'm glad the series is over

We need Harry Brook back. But obviously it will be Foakes who will make way and not Bairstow

Even in Asia, I'm pretty sure Jennings has struggled against pace (might do less so at 3 I guess), so even with his apparent credentials in these conditions, Bumrah/Siraj getting him cheaply throughout the whole series would have been entirely likely imo

I think Crawley makes it as a backup opener and if picking 2 seamers then Jimmy is in.
