Alright, who is ready to get really excited only to hate cricket by 7pm tonight?

Or even 12pm.
You might not be aware but there is a level of optimism in your first sentence, and even the second, that is admirable.

But that's OK because NZ captains have good fortune at the toss....Um.

Nah, I'm going full optimism. We win the toss, bowl, Henry gets Smith early, Southee doesn't go for runs, ORourke runs through the LHers and we clean them up for 180 or so.

And so I get some likes, in this optimistic scenario, Kuggeleijn rolled his ankle McGrath-style in warmups

I’m in! Just nabbed one of the last spots on the top of the bank. Round about on a late cut from the right hander facing at the scoreboard end. I’ll post a picture if I can. Pitch looks a light green colour. Not emerald - I repeat, NOT emerald green.

I expect a very had fought test series tbh. 1-1 or an NZ win wouldn't surprise me.
I don't see were NZ are getting 20 wickets from. Even if Southee gets the ball to swing round corners his pace is so slow he's just not threatening. Henry hasn't been in great form and is coming off an injury. Ravindra and Phillips are part timers. The only X-factor bowler NZ has is O'Rourke but he's very much a rookie. Losing Jamieson was a huge blow.

The KFC sign brings good memories of Rossco.

Cloudy af. Assume it will swing, though sometimes wind or too much moisture can confound that.
Actually, not much wind this morning either. I can report the pōhutukawas are barely rustling. It’s the least windy day in Wellington since last Autumn.

This is why I have Henry down as the key NZ bowler, which means he has to operate in the 135km/h plus zone rather than down at 130.

SP is at the bowling crease. First practice he flung down careened wide down the leg-side.

2nd was still down leg.

Mitchell and Henry also warming with a few deliveries. Mitchell biffs that and goes fielding. SP and Henry still bowling.
