Past 10 years for England he's got the second best batting average for anyone batting 3, averaging 44. Better than root in that position. But yes, he's flattering to deceive and would be on the chopping block if he wasn't VC.

Pope definitely is undroppable in the eyes of the current regime.
He's part of a core group who could be a part of England's plans for the next decade and since his promotion to No.3(A position that England have found very difficult to cover since Jonathan Trott's retirement) he averages 43.48 in Test cricket
