Really think we could do far better with this line up next game -

Rohit
Jaiswal
Pattidar
Rahul
Sarfraz
Washy
Jurel (wk) / Jagadeesan (wk)
Axar
Ashwin
Kuldeep
Bumrah
Would have agreed before the Test but having watched a bit now I reckon Siraj actually could be useful when you bowl.

Whatever it takes!!!
Yeah I would've played this side in this game (assuming the keepers were available). Kishan an option as well. Hell recall Saha if we have to, he's still playing Ranji.
Kishan is not an option. Looks like he has had some sort of falling out with the management. I am wondering if he will play for MI. Two different reasons running around the rumor mills for whatever seems to be his mental stress issues are - The MI return of Hardik as apparently Ishan was expecting to be vc to SKY there, and the other is the management seeming to prefer Rahul over him as the wicketkeeper-bat in South Africa.

Not sure it would make sense to go with 4 spinners unless it an absolute rank turner. Even then with 4 spinners 1 will almost certainly be under bowled.
I would drop Iyer, just because how uncomfortable he looked while he batted. Gill although played terrible shot, he seemed to be getting back in the groove.

Yeah Siraj is given a break due to mental fatigue. It was clear he was his usual sprightly self and the pace was well down too. I am fine with him sitting out the series.

Jaiswal the third youngest double centurion from India after Vinod Kambli and Sunil Gavaskar.

Interesting that two of the top 20 youngest double centurions are playing this match, Crawley and Jaiswal.

I mean that's pretty immature of him if he's had issues with that. Get in line and wait your turn. It's not like he's a prodigy or something.

He has more mental strength than Jaiswal at least, his was measured as being in the top 10 percentile.

Definitely agree with you that Sundar would make more sense than Mukesh. I'd have picked a second quick if it was going to be Shami or Siraj (or even Umesh) but failing an actual qualify option I reckon the second quick just won't bowl much and you're better off with Sundar to lengthen the batting.

He could have helped add 50 to the total here and would possibly bowl more overs. He is also a harder spinner to sweep against coz of his height, release and bounce.

Kishan is an idiot. He is overrated anyways. He was in the squad for SA series and pulls out for whatever reason. If he pulled out because he wasn't happy with the management, what was he expecting? He thinks he is kohli and management would come begging to him?
He shot himself in the foot.
If he pulled out for break/mental break that is even worse. He sat out the whole WC and he needed more break?

Plus he is not even playing domestic. This should hopefully be end of him much like Shaw!

It's odd too because he's tall and comes right over the top - you'd think if anything he'd err on the shorter side because he gets so much bounce. A slightly short delivery could still kick up and be a problem but a half volley will be drilled. Shorter bowlers and side spinners just get caned if they drop short so they need their average delivery to be fuller.
Yeah, completely agree. I wonder if he does it in county cricket - guessing given he averages 67 in FC, he probably does.

Can someone explain how a 20-year-old who averages 67 is playing? I read on cricinfo he went well in the UAE with the Lions, but I guess it begs asking why he was there, too. (I'm sure this is mentioned other places in the thread but I CBF looking back)

Mukesh's mental strength test was deferred so it'll be interesting to see how strong he is first hand

Counties just don't pick spinners for 80% of the season unless they can bat in the top 7. Stokes-McCullum regime has basically just accepted this and decided to try and develop their away spin options outside the county system. They're gonna be picked on the eye test, academy programs and England Lions tours. Rehan's record was absolutely putrid when he debuted too.

It's far from ideal but it's probably better than picking someone with more county experience because he can bat who averages 37 with the ball anyway.
