What is the cause for a lack of quality batsmen from the 92-99 generation?

I do think what we're seeing now might be a lot of T20s but that absolutely does not explain what happened to batting averages between 2013, which was probably the end of the global roads era, and about 2018 when even Australia started to roll out the odd greentop or two. That's mostly just pitches and much, much better bowlers arriving on the scene compared to the hacks of the late 00s and early 10s aside from a select few.
A bit harsh, right when England had their strongest attack.

Social media generation brings lack of attention span.
It's genuinely hilarious that this has become the common meme complaint in the days of the three-and-a-half hour long movie, the 90 minute long album, the TV series with regular hour-long episodes without ads and the ten hour video essay.

This isn't strictly fair. Cricket performance is environmentally controlled more than most sports, and the average pitch in 2008 was much, much harder to take wickets on than in even 1998 nevermind 1988 or earlier.

The homogeneity of the roads globally also meant it was easier for batsmen to adjust between countries.

The way people interact with that type of media is completely differently nowadays though. I reckon a significant number of people now watch Netflix/Prime while looking at smartphones.

Sure, not saying that it's as straightforward as longer thing better. I'm just saying that "short attention spans as demonstrated by people no longer being interested in long form content" is not a well supported thesis.

Which is why you put the captions on so can switch between the two constantly. More challenging with live sport though

I just watch them on my smartphone. Only use my TV for gaming tbh.
