Thoughts on Rohit's captaincy so far

Whatever it takes!!!
We have also missed more than just pant through the last year or so. We did not have Bumrah for the BG series, we did not have Shami for the RSA series and we are currently without Virat and it seems like Jaddu will miss the next few tests or even entire series. If Brook had played, they wont have had one of Bairstow/Pope/Foakes and I think, except Bairstow, that would have actually been detrimental to England's chances this test.

Rohit is stupid because he has lost the Test Championship and lost the ODI cup. If he doesn't have a good reason for not picking Shami in the side, the latest shemozzle against England is on him too.

Yeah I don't want to make this sound like an excuse, but losing Pant has been a monumental blow. He papered over the cracks of the failing top order and consistently played match turning innings in every series. Everyone has players missing in individual series ( England dont have Brook for example) but losing arguably your best batsman and keeper for what seems like it could be 2 years or more is brutal.
How long till he gets back

I mean that's not really an "excuse" per se, it's just obviously true. I don't know of a side in history that isn't substantively weakened by losing a generational batting talent who can also keep, especially when the other batting talents flatter to deceive and the senior batsmen slowly fade.
