I'm with TJB on the batting/bowling friendly era talk. How can modern cricket be called "bowler friendly" given batsmen have better bats and protective gear and the boundaries are brought in from the pickets?

Most of these things - even the bats - are very marginal compared to the significantly more helpful pitches. Those factors might make a 5% difference each while pitches alone are like a 50% difference.
