Or Ian SalisburyWhere is Chris Schofield when you need him
Yeah Kuhnemann didn't look amazing but he did the thing you have to do: he bowled fast and at middle stump with reasonable consistency, at least for the first two games he played. Plus he turned it the opposite way to the rest of the spinners. Hartley meanwhile is all over the place and too slow.Well you can point out that we didn't do too badly with three spinners. That said, from what I've seen of both of them, Kuhnemann, who didn't really bowl that well, is a noticeably better bowler than Hartley - whose main justification for selection on this tour is that he's tall and can bat.
He could still come back and grab wickets if he can find the right length and pace.
Albie Morkel as well, got 58 in next to no time..Poor lad has been thrown to the lions getting the new ball like this and being kept on. Kinda reminds me of Bryce McGain's one Test. Although he was not a bad bowler, just got thrown to Kallis, Prince & De Villiers in full flow on a flat Newlands pitch.
Yeah Root as the third spinner would be absolutely fine. The quality of the first two spinners is obviously the real issue.Stokes injury just hamstrings us again as it did in the Ashes with the balance.
He shouldn't have played the World Cup gone and gone for surgery soon as the Ashes finished. He may well have been able to bowl here.
Said as much at the time. Said hope we/he doesn't regret the decision if impacts this tour.
That being said Root as third spinner wouldn't be any worse than Hartley right now.
That was only at Delhi where Axar and Ashwin had that partnership right? There were a few points in that tour where Cummins kept bowling Kuhnemann over himself or one of the pacers who honestly would've been more threatening.
Yeah, Cummins went home after the 2nd Test. That was only at Delhi where Axar and Ashwin had that partnership right?
We’re also ignoring the fact that Leach has been trash & at least he’s experiencedYeah Kuhnemann didn't look amazing but he did the thing you have to do: he bowled fast and at middle stump with reasonable consistency, at least for the first two games he played. Plus he turned it the opposite way to the rest of the spinners. Hartley meanwhile is all over the place and too slow.
They're probably trying to avoid having to bring on Ahmed and having him get annihilated tbh.Continuing on with Hartley at this stage is pretty brain dead... it smacks of just not wanting to change plans, because this is what we decided come hell or high water.
Unless they're already thinking that Hartley is never going to have much of an International career and it's Rehan who needs protecting.Hartley shouldn't open
BAZBALL IS BRAVE but needs logic
Can't be easy for him with zero support at the other endWe’re also ignoring the fact that Leach has been trash & at least he’s experienced
I thought Root was gonna take the new ball... wouldn't have felt as much pressure with more experience and his place not on the line. Oh wellGet Root on
