Ponting was consistently a very very good player and a player of great peak, NEVER a great player. Scoring runs when everyone fails against quality bowling on tough pitches is the bare minimum, and Ponting simply lacks iconic knocks like the outside few. Viv, Lara, SRT, and Sobers are the ones whom you call great batsmen, not Ponting. Ponting's career coincided with flat pitches era that's the reason behind his average.

For what it's worth, if the worst choices in that team are Kallis and Dhoni; then it's still better than half the no. of teams ex-cricketers make....

kallis isn't that bad, definitely not my choice but it's at least somewhat reasonable. Dhoni is diabolical though

Dhoni makes my 7th team (yes, I had enough free time to make 7, actually 15 of them). I think the person making the team got highly influenced by his LOI performance to realise that overall his Test performance is lackluster especially compared to Gilly.
