you may say "wow he tried to play kallisball and failed" but it let michael clarke come in and score 200 runs off 100 balls so that set up the game (siddle failed to finish the job :()

100* vs SA at Cape Town in 02 rates a mention imo.
4th innings Bangladesh ton was also good

Also his MCG ton against peak Donald deserves a mention given he must have been 22 at the time. Its could have been like Cam Green making a ton against South Africa/Nortje last year

Cricketer Of The Year
I've enjoyed my year on this forum, but I swear, Test Cricket could end tomorrow and there would still be more people posting on an entirely random player comparison.

Qlder

International Debutant
If only there was a separate forum to put all the BS player vs player threads....oh wait!

howitzer

State Captain
Looks like CWers just can't cope with the truth. Pietersen is better because every time he scored runs it was a lone effort (incidentally because no one would want to bat with him for very long). On the other hand, Ponting was just a hackfraud like Border – not someone who actually would win matches.
This is gold.

Kenneth Viljoen

International Regular
Ponting simply could never play mumbai 187. Ponting lacks iconic knocks, he mostly scored when everyone else scored. Run machine but not someone who was magician like KP or Lara
How is that even possible?
Ponting in his prime was a No.3, unless your side doesn't lose a wicket in the first session , a No.3 builds the platform for the rest of the team, not the other way around.

As for Ponting not being mercurial , well most of the times Punter and his mates were burying teams in the dirt of defeat.
They didn't usually need to play knocks to get out of danger because they were the danger lol.

OP is obviously a troll

Ponting did play quite a few match saving innings in the early part of his career when when he was batting at 6. IIRC his first ton in England came when they were 4 down for not 60 or something. Similar knocks against SA, Pakistan at WACA and few in Sri Lanka against Murali. But obviously he started setting up innings once moving to 3
