No place for the only player to score a century in a WC semi and final?
Whom do you drop in first 5?

Dilshan is the best SL ODi batsman. Averages 45 when opening. Jayasuriya for obvious reasons. Sangakkara is the most dependable ODI batsman. Ranatunga is the best #5 bats we had and during his youth was one of the best ODI bats in the world. Aravinda is the most similar player to MJ, while being a big match player himself, Aravinda score way quickly than MJ. He has a better SR considering he debuted 12 years before MJ.

I don't think MJ can play 6/7. It is not his game.

Honestly, I have to drop Dilshan.... Also, no Sean Williams in Zimbabwe team but Stuart Williams is there?

Has to be Sean. You are correct.

Dilshan has 21 centuries opening, averaging 45 at SR of 86. Don't need to explain much.

Bat Ranatunga at 6 and drop one of Mathews or Arnold.

Jayasuriya
Sangakkara
De Silva
Ranatunga
Mathews
Arnold
Vaas
Kulasekara / A. Mendis

I still think Arnold should be swapped.

Pak was a great odi team for a long team in the 80s, 90s, early 00s.

I don't know why you want to push the best SL middle order bats one position down

I feel Tillakaratne should be swapped for perera, Matthews or another dynamic batsman or an all rounder.

De Silva is a waste at 5, he is a stroke maker, dynamic batsman suited to bat higher up and best utilise his skills. Ranatunga at 6 is suited at number 5 who can hold the innings together.

Matthews
Perera
Mahela
Hasaranga/Zoysa
Vaas

Mahela would be a floater. Hasaranga or Zoysa dependent on conditions (both useful pinch hitters). Matthews bowling gets him in ahead of Ranatunga.

SA are great on paper but should they be considered that highly given they ****ed up every tournament with the talent at their disposal?

facts wrong but you got to have Mahela in there. Stats aren't everything.
Mahela is way overrated, just because the has silken touch. I'd take Ranatunga every day of the week and twice on Sundays over him.
