I dont rate him above sobers, lara ,tendulkar, richards but still imo he gets credit to maintain an average of 100. But i don't think cricket was that developed during his era so he comes in top 10-15 for me

Lara/Ambrose for me. I just think Lara was ahead of Ponting and Viv as bats by too far to ignore.
Viv has fielding and extra bit of bowling over Lara.
Marshall has extra batting and is a better bowler than Ambrose.
You have to rate Lara ahead of Viv by a massive margin to overcome all of these.

I do though.
I think Viv would have had to have averaged about 40 to make up for all the other stuff for me.
I don't know which of the 2 to rank ahead as bats... probably Lara, but it's very close. Viv played a bit longer, wasn't a HTB, didn't play about half his tests in the 2000s etc.
