***Official*** India Tour of South Africa, 2023/24

Whatever it takes!!!
They won't. Cricket doesn't have the flexibility.
I remember there was a game between Ind and SL in the 90s where it was abandoned as the pitch was too dangerous. Think it was an ODI in India. They ended up playing a 25 over game between the sides on an adjacent pitch to ensure the crowd had a game to watch. It was not an official international but I think it was considered a List A game.

Honestly, I would try and squeeze in a 3rd test tbh. I would have had one in the schedule and pushed the SA20 by 5 days if that is what it took. The worst part about all these T20 leagues is their absolute refusal to have multiple games on the same day. Kinda defeats the point of a league when you think you can force folks to watch only one game in a day.

I thought that but in this case they've already booked umpires, broadcasters, commentators, security, food and drinks etc for those days. Just having everyone show up as if they were going to Day 4 and then playing an ODI instead shouldn't be that hard.

I agree that they won't actually do it though. India would probably complain they didn't have their ODI squad there or something.
As I said, it can always be made a list A game. And our side is not too far off our ODI side anyways. Plus if the A team is still there, think that should cover almost all of our ODI players.

can't do an ODI, could definitely do an exhibition OD match. Would allow them to play in whites and a red ball and not run into any contractual issues with regards to sponsors, broadcasting agreements, etc.

No this is fun as long as it's not every game. The occasional lottery on a green-top is good for cricket.
shouldn't be a lottery, just because batsmen don't have it easy doesn't mean the side shows the best skills in the conditions shouldn't win

- batsmen who apply themselves, or even take chances knowing they might not last long
- bowlers needing to bowl a good line, bowl well, or concede runs which prove crucial
- captaincy and fielding needing to be tip top, or concede runs which prove crucial

because of low scores a partnership, cameo, or concession of through poor fielding/bowling, bring runs to the game that can be pivotal.

wouldn't go to the extreme of having pitches on which sides can be bowled out for under 100 but pitches where 200-250 or 250-300 are par are far better, make a hundred mean something, and indeed 5wis retain their worth as you have bowlers all pressing for wickets

Funny how the Cricinfo commentary both mentions 'Bumrah's brilliance' and makes it sound like a fairly ordinary delivery that was played poorly considering the state of match and time of day. Like, which is it?

Sri Lanka toured in 2002/03 just for the ODI tri series and they had a tour game against Aus A that lasted about 30 overs, SL bowled out for 60 and it was chased down in 10 overs. Common sense prevailed and they played a 25-over game right after, would have been a good day for the spectators.
I remember watching this. I was in my grandmother's holiday house in Avoca.

It's probably fair tbh. It was a decent first over but Bedingham was all over the shop.

They probably just wanted to go for the alliteration (bumrah, brilliant, bedingham)

I was thinking, everything counts against CSA and Newland to prepare a wicket like this on purpose, it's almost inconceivable.

Yet again this is CSA and WP, nowhere in the world would anyone look at these people and expect them to make good decisions.

Five down and 13 behind making India bat again.

One or two decent partnerships could change the course of this match but I don't see it happening.

I don't think this was deliberate. I think it's more a case of not dealing with the weather properly. It's been very hot in Cape Town this past week, and either they didn't make necessary adjustments or they went too far.
