Just as a reminder, green is 24 and a half and has an average split of 33.5-36. At that same age, botham: 39-19.5, kallis 43-28, miller haden't made his debut cause ww2, Imran khan 20-33, and the favourite comparison, shane watson: had played 3 test's for a batting average of 20 and a bowling average of 61.
Green has a shield average north of 50 over a decent sample now and has made runs for Aus-A whenever he's played for them, along with the IPL, and last WTC cycle over a 2-year cycle including multiple first-time asia tours, he averaged 36 with the bat and 29 with the ball. He's had four bad games in england, where I must remind you, he never played any FC or above cricket before, and people are acting like he's suddenly not a fantastic prospect. If anything, i'de say green's biggest issue is the fact he came up at a point where there was no competition for spots in the AUS team and covid cutting back chances for overseas A tour's.
Look at somoene like aaron hardie as an example. He's green's age, but he's also had experience playing white and red ball cricket in the english with surrey and the same in Asia with Aus-A. Green came into international cricket as a 21-year-old who had spent his previous two years as a specialist bat. Watson at the same point got 3 test's as a young prospect, then got 3-4 years of time to work his game out at domestic level and in white-ball international's before coming back to test's. Green didn't get that oppurtunity due to covid and competition in the team at the time, and his stats reflect that.
Edit: My point from all that rambling is that green's clearly an exceptional talent, and his stats more reflect a young cricketer, who unlike other players has had to figure out all three format's of his game at the same time, mostly at international level . He's not kallis or botham, but those guys are next-level freaks, and imran's career path clearly shows top quality allrounders can have rough starts.
