***Official*** India Tour of South Africa, 2023/24

It pains me to say this but the Lord of 2020 and 21 had a bit more zip about him, just seemed fitter and was running in harder and getting good shape with his swing, even if he kept bowling 1 or 2 bad balls an over. If this is what he has to offer now, we are better off playing both spinners and hoping they can control one end while we rotate the seamers at the other end.
Why did they discard Unadkat?

In the next match, we should change both Shardul and Krishna. If Mukesh is one replacement, then I fear Jadeja has to be the other as India's other pace option is ****ing Akash Deep.

Whatever it takes!!!
@cnerd123 and @SillyCowCorner1 - more than lack of FC cricket, its the diet of T20 cricket that creates these issues. Bowling the same ball again and again and bowling in a good length are both absolute nos in T20 cricket and these guys play so much of that. I think the A team program needs to be prioritized as much as possible for all formats and it also needs to become a vehicle for folks to stage a comeback. Especially the bowlers. I would love to see Shardul dropped now and go back to the next A tour, get fit, bowl lots of overs, get wickets, make runs and earn his place back in the side. Maybe we discarded Ishant too early but he never seemed the same bowler post his injury during that 2020 BG series. And all of a sudden, Siraj, who was our 6th or 7th best fast bowler during that tour is now our second/third best seamer and it shows.

I know SA cricket politics can be... Byzantine... at the best of times, but how on earth has Bedingham not played a Test before now? The bloke looks absolutely made for this level.
Yes - from the first few balls he's looked absolutely rock solid.

So did the new KP in 2021. Its the same issue we have in India and probably all other nations except maybe NZ. People look like the next big thing, esp. batsmen, at home before they get found out away.

He was making a career as a county pro pre Brexit and still got a gig as an overseas player despite it

Suppose it just took some bridge mending to coax him back into the setup

Never thought I'd see the day even HB is tearing into Thakul.

Keep the faith HB! Don't stop believing!
To have such reliability poor batting that this match is already over should be such a sign to management that a big change is needed urgently.

I always felt it was the length. He is good at playing slightly inside deliveries that are short of a driving length. In SA that length is perhaps a little fuller than other countries. He is also good off the short stuff generally with his pulls and cuts. When it is full he has a decent punch down the ground or through cover. He is always susceptible when a seamer bowls it into his body as his history of legside dismissals will attest too.

I thought he always played as an overseas rather than kolpak for Durham, thus maintaining eligibility
He was trying to become a local player through four years qualification but he changed his mind. He was always still eligible if he did change his mind, but he took himself out of the running for a little while.

Batting depth in SA was definitely a bit better when he made the original call in late 2019.
