The problem I find is that people keep thinking we can continue on from when we were good. That time is done that needed sensible decision making 5 years ago, and plans for continuity. Right now SA only hope is to rebuild from scratch both from a cricket culture point of view and from a team point of view. Any short term decision making now just makes the current issues and problems last longer. Identify your core 15/16 most talented players that are going to give a minimum of 5 years and go from there. Rebuild and see where SA stand in few years time.

I'll miss Dean Elgar. In an Era of big hitters and Test run rates getting higher and higher he was a guilty pleasure of mine. Loved watching him squeeze every ounce of ability out of himself trying to stick around at the crease. I loved how he survived some Testing periods in Test simply because it seemed like he just wasn't good enough to get close to the ball! He was a weapon as an opener in SA. Averaging 46 and striking at 50 in SA against the new ball over 40 odd Tests is a testament to his talent. Never that great away but there were some memorable match setting 100s in there such as SL 2014 and Aus 2016. Cheers Deano!

Whilst opening the batting is probably the most difficult assignment for a batsman, Dean Elgar's Test average of 37.29 is probably a little bit low. At one stage in his Test career his average was in the low 40s.

Averaging 27.88 away from the comforts of home, for a Test opening batsman...far to low.

Good servant of RSA cricket. Goold old fashioned test opener. Was a decent captain as well. Wish him well and will be missed in the game.

Qeshile with a fifty and a century. Fortuin may have been the keeper against West Indies A, but unless there's a substantial difference in keeping ability, Qeshile looks like the better option for the New Zealand tour.
