Whatever it takes!!!
But brother he averages 50 in odi cricket before this knock, i think he has been badly treated by Indian selectors..
Nah.. he is competing with Rahul basically for the #5 keeper-batsman slot. Its a roughie but Rahul is just better IMO. He has been around as the backup though and I think now he has bypassed Kishan, whom, if you recall, was in great form leading into the WC as a #5 but was suddenly forced to be an opener in the WC.

What i mean when I say badly treated, is quality of opportunity..
This was only his 14th odi innings for India ..

2022 was the only year he got a decent run in the team, he played 9 matches scored 284 runs at 71.00 , SR - 105 ..

In 2023 he only played 3 innings , scored 1 50 and failed in the other 2 innings yet kicked out of the squad that went to the World Cup ..
How can a player be kicked out of a WC squad for failing in just 2 innings?
Suryakumar Yadav only averages 25 in 37 games at a similar strike rate to Samson yet went to the WC

Before that Dhoni played way too long in ODI which shut him out the team , also Rishabh Pant was preferred and his ODI record is not great either.

Every occasion there was a time to put faith in Samson , India always chose the other option.

Yeah but he also struggled almost every time to deal with balls above 140 and above his waist. I agree he deserved few more opportunities but covid killing all A team cricket is what really hampered his progress more than anything else IMO.

MSD playing too long was inevitable given how dependent we were on the wrist spinning duo and how dependent in turn, they were, on him.

No point in discussion batting bench strength, there is plenty.
It's this lackluster back back up bowling attack is a real concern.

The one thing I feel we miss out on with our spinners is this. Almost any game that Kuldeep or Chahal have won for us LO cricket, were games that we would have mostly won with say, Washy and/or Axar playing instead of them. Just that we would have won by a smaller or closer margin than those huge curbstomps we regularly dish out in JAM LO games. And that is where the value of the players who have a good secondary skill comes through. We wont have lost any of the games we won IMO but we could or would have won games we did lose, including important KO games with more batting and bowling depth.

And even blokes like Bumrah and Arshdeep who are proper #11s have improved their batting, esp. their hitting which is required for LO cricket. Kuldeep is a decent #8 for long form but is absolutely useless in LO cricket with the bat. Its time we prioritized such players. 2 proper batsmen, 2 batsmen who can bowl, 2 allrounders, 2 bowlers who can bat, 2 bowlers and 1 wicket-keeper batsman. This is how a proper LO side should line up and its high time we started playing to this template.

2 batsmen - Gill, Shreyas
2 batsmen who can bowl - Sudarshan/Jaiswal, Tilak
1 keeper - Rahul/Samson
2 allrounders - Washy, Hardik
2 bowlers who can bat - Chahar/Lord, Axar
2 bowlers - Bumrah/Siraj, Arshdeep

This should be our ODI line-up at least till the CT.

Ideal time to try Tilak for a few overs with the ball, maybe even Rinku and cut some losses with Avesh's overs. Lets see if KL has the courage.

International Regular
I cannot defend Mulder anymore..
Seems like the boy cannot adapt to the demands of international cricket. He hasnt shown even the slightest bit of promise with the bat in a Protea shirt ..
Its actually unfair to other all rounders out there that are waiting for an opportunity, not even one 50 in 6 years of international cricket ? I dont care if he hasnt been consistently part of the team, you arent going to be regular in any team with a batting average of 11 as an all rounder.

It isn't a good look. Especially with the way Jansen has gone at 7.

it wouldnt be a JAMODI/JAMT20 Indian series if it didnt have any mention of how Samson has been underrated and mistreated by the selectors of the Indian team
