The Hutt Rec

International Vice-Captain
There's part of me that wonders whether Santner has now reached that magical age that spinners apparently reach where they suddenly git gud, with his bowling in the World Cup showing a new stage in his development or something. Plus I seem to remember he took a decent bag in a Plunket Shield game recently. But then the more realistic part of me thinks that he'd just do what he's always done at Test level, bowl a bit too fast, not turn it enough and be a bit too loose.
I've thought exactly the same thing. I think I've got my hopes up for players in similar circumstances in the past, and then they've played and performed just the same as they always have.

King Kane

International Regular
Phillips gone.

Surprised old Pistol didn't fire him without a review, that looked out.

Still a pretty good test for Phillips though, he has done enough to hold his spot.

Yeah playing back to literally every delivery is not a good way to play spin.

With Phillips now gone we can stick a fork in this one I think. Pretty poor performance all around I thought, haven't seen a hell of a lot of it but we've looked a bit sleepy and off-the-boil when I have been watching. On the positive side, Kane scoring runs is good, and I thought Jamieson bowled pretty well all things considered but had no luck. Mitchell's done alright too though his dismissal in the first innings was pretty crucial.

Bangladesh definitely bowling far better than our frontline spinners. Our bats are facing difficult conditions but you'd still expect a lot better from them. Conway is looking properly out of form. Latham /Nicholls woeful.
