Thats an illusion created by easy batting era.
Viv, Sachin and AB were the best chasers during their times. (In fact, its always been Best batsman = best chaser )
Check AB chasing stats after Kohli debut, its much better than Kohli's.
Averages: Richards 45 (47 overall), Sachin 42 (44 overall), De Villiers 60 (53.5 overall), Kohli 67 (58.7 overall).... Only de Villiers among the players here, alongside Dhoni and Bevan; can be compared with Kohli while chasing. And I don't think that they played in such different eras to justify this big average jumps.
And on strike rates; only Viv's strike rate (90) is objectively better than Kohli's (93.5); taking eras and batting positions into consideration. Sachin's (86.5) as an opener during that era was good; but isn't particularly outstanding either, and given ABD's (101) batting position, the difference between theirs only seems logical.

Just 5 years difference make huge difference in ODI avgs in post 2000 era.

Sachin's Strike rate was outstanding, and at different periods, Sachin's strike rate was best in the world.

Kohli's Strike rate is comparable to Lara or Ponting, better than Bevan, far inferior to Sachin or AB. ( Dhoni also slightly better than Kohli in terms of SR.. Especially considering his style in chasing )

Sachin also opened the innings and was able to fully embrace the powerplay; and ABD and Kohli's batting positions were different which more than justifies their strike rate difference..... Most of all, I don't think there's any reason to delve much into someone's strike rate if it's over 90. Strike rate is not average.

The only argument is Sachin did face better quality atg bowlers.

You could say Kohli faced good bowlers against Australia, south Africa, England, NZ.

Sachin were atg he faced.

Sachin played for goddamn 23 years..... Over that long of a career, you would practically face drastically different qualities of bowling. Like Gavaskar has scored runs against the Greatest bowling lineup of all time (the Windies fab 4); but his most successful tour was also against arguably their worst bowling attack.

That's not a good argument at all. Tendulkar from 94 until 01-02 when sehwag took over as the attacking opener, was scoring at SR in the low 90s at a time when great openers like Mark waugh were in the mid to high 70s. To say that his strike rate "wasn't particularly outstanding" is completely ridiculous.

It's literally what separates him from other openers of the era, he could do the jayasuriya role of scoring almost as quickly with better than mark waugh consistency of runs . You can't just look at overall strike rate for a career that long ffs.

That's a very good point. I admit I should had put more emphasis on his strike rate before Sehwag took on the attacking role; but my point still is that, if someone's strike rate is over 90 is middle order, especially when his role is building the innings, I don't think that should be scrutinized.....

You back that up with stats?

Sharjah hundreds

Princess Diana memorial game 1998 Vs McGrath
He was definitely a bit of an htb in odis in the 90s. Pretty sure I looked up that he didn't score any hundreds in SENA+wi in the entire decade. Or if he did it was a small handful.
