Aus were the better team on the day, simple as that. India can't complain; they got the better conditions on a few occasions in the group stages. In the semis too, at a ground where they'd previously destroyed SL, but NZ fronted up rather well, didn't they? The law of averages finally caught up with us; everything that could go wrong mostly did go wrong, just in a less humiliating way than say Eden '96.

They would've scored 280

Under extreme pressure, gill would've got out early, Rohit 15 runs later, then another edge, yet another edge found

Would've been 12-1, 33-2, 54-3 edge, 82-4 edged

That's how historically India have in major tournament, pressure games and especially against Australia have done. Got to think back to those dlf games, many other games.

Knowing how they batted first, that's how they would've batted similar second innings. The only chance is if the score is 100-1 and Rahul hanging there till the end which he would've been nervous jabbing the bat. He seems a bit shaky under pressure.

Starc would've took two, Cummins one

Then some revival, jadeja out of 10, score 112-5 after 28

Then the last two recognised batsman wouldn't know whether to play say for 7 overs or go for it

Even if Australia scored 260, India would find themselves timid, nervously hanging bat, not knowing when to poke or leave or to attack

Australia score 273

India 85-4 (20)

Some cautious batting, defence, milking between the fourth and fifth wicket

The batsman finds the edge of a very good delivery

115-5 (27)

Some revival

Singles taken, milking the bowling, defence, leaving balls

Another edge found

153-6 (35)-S Yadav getting out the turning point

Then they would've scored 25 in 6 trying to get a platform knowing six wickets are down

A lot of defence, leaving

Easy singles taken

178-6 (41)

Needing 94 off 9, Rahul would ask he's tail Ender's to go for it

Tailenders hit two fours, hit twos

24 off 3 overs hit

202-7

(44)

Needing 72 off 6

This is when Rahul thinks it's time for him

Hit two fours, some singles, 17 off two

220-8 (46)

54 off 4, rrr 14 an over

Rahul skies it and gets out

Two fours hit by the tail, twos

240-9 (48)

34 off 12, tense eyes in the Indian dugout

In the t20 era, even 17 an over is possible if they can hit fours they think and hope this is the case

Chewing nails

Batsman gets out trying to hit a six to mid on

240-10

You know it's true under pressure how India bats against good attacks

Always seen this and especially all the loses in the finals between 2000-2004 where India made virtually every tourney final

Think it'd be mid-off tbh.

I think India would have won , this reminded me of George Foreman (India) vs Mohammad Ali (Australia) ..

Foreman was unstoppable destroying everyone in his wake , Mohammad Ali was a legend of the sport, but many believed was passed his best but he banked on a rope a dope strategy which was a risk (Cummins risked batting under lights, and scoreboard pressure) but one which gave his side the best chance.

Nah India here are more like Tommy Morrison. KO’ed a stack of tomatoes but couldn’t step up against the varsity
