Had a feeling this would happen. India had been so dominant the preśsure was huge and they were due a below par performance.

Congrats australia. As an aside though, bit of a **** wc tbh

I will say the subdued crowd did cricket and the fans themselves no favours, who wants to see such a poor sporting reception of, regardless what you think of aussies or that side, a top effort to topple the home side
Yes, very poor form. I also believe the Indian team didn’t stay on the field for the presentation which, if true, is terrible sportsmanship.

Guess it's different strokes for different folks, in regards to the quality of this World Cup. There's certainly been a lot of outstanding individual performances. Unfortunately as batting becomes more aggressive, scorelines in 50-over games (and 20s, mind you) are always going to be more lop-sided. Or certainly that is the case on good decks. As I've said before, I still loved it. Heaps of upsets, controversies around the semi final deck, the rise and fall of England, India's 10 in a row then crapping out, Australia winning nine on the trot after being written off, Maxwell's epic, there's just so much that will live on.

The thing I do know about 50-over contests is there's still a place for milestones, for personal records, for things that further illuminate the game. Kohli's 50 tons has been a big focus. Maxwell's 200. People averaging over 50. We had a whole thread on records and milestones. That provides extra weight to what is happening. If you bin that, T20 just doesn't have this weight to carry it.

Once Aus made the final it was basically over. India were like deers in the headlights from the get go. Even Sharma was streaky AF early on.

Honestly, as soon as those eleven uber-masculine, self-confident-but-not-over-confident Aussies strode onto the park for the anthems, this was done. You could see fear and tension in the Indians' eyes. The Aussies carried with them a legacy - that only winning will do.

Doesn't matter where, doesn't matter who they are playing. If you're up against Aus in a WC KO game, you're generally ****ed because they know if they don't come home with the trophy they will be rightfully excoriated and disowned by their people. It breeds excellence.

They also eat steak, not this vegan ****.
It should be "deer" in the highlights, not deers.

Most 7 year-olds know the plural of deer is deer. Oh dear.

India had about an hour of play under lights where the ball was hooping all corners. It was easily the hardest time to bat in the whole game for either side and that was the biggest risk Cummins took with the toss. They could have easily had Australia 6 down for 50 as they did to most other teams in the tournament but Australia weatherd that period without completely falling over and went on to win.

If you can't recognise that, you are a bit of a salty sook
You know what else is funny, if Australia had chosen to bat first and Starc/Haze/Cummins ripped through India in same period under lights and had them 6/50 basically ending the game, the same guys (trundler) blaming the toss now would blame it then as well.

"Australia won the game by winning the toss India had to face the new ball under lights it wasn't fair etc"

Australians have a much better sense of humour when naming things for our PM's

PM Modi got a stadium.
PM Harold Holt got a pool.

(For our Indian friends, Holt drowned whilst swimming)

BREAKING FRONT PAGE NEWS FROM THE AHMEDABAD MIRROR

A photo of Kapil Dev in 1983 ''graciously'' holding the world cup aloft above his head.
A photo of Sachin Tendulkar in 2011 ''romantically'' kissing the coveted trophy.
A photo of Mitchell Marsh yesterday laid back on a couch with his legs up and feet resting on the holy grail.

Apparently this has been deemed a very disrespectful act from Marsh and a culture war has broken out.

In other front page news a young man from Delhi in town for the WC has been caught by five policemen with a bottle of liquor in his car.
It's been alleged that rather than going through the usual channels the policemen attempted to extort 20,000 rupees from the young man.

#Nothing noteworthy to report from the middle pages.

When you've won 7 WC's in your team's history and three in your playing career like alpha male, big chested, poontang banging mitch marsh has, the appeal of a particular trophy stops carrying as much weight. You millennial Indian fans who never lived one day under nuclear threat can now reflect upon your woke sky. You made quite a non-binary fuss to save the world from intercontinental ballistic tweets.

Pretty hilarious the Indians are still trying to have some influence on the WC even when its safely ensconced in the Australian side's hotel rooms. Cry harder ffs. Putting your feet on a trophy which the Indian team will never get its hands on might somehow be offensive over there, but being a whining **** and not shutting tf up when you've had your arse handed to you is offensive here.

I imagine Aus will get to keep this WC trophy anyway. They've won it five times (five!) out of the seven its been in existence.
