Don’t pick ****s who can’t field. Improve the minimum standard. From the lower levels upward.
I feel like the issue is a lot of our bowlers tend to come from poor backgrounds where they don’t have access to good facilities and don’t work on it as much. Same with batting. If you can barely afford bowling shoes you’re rarely going to have a hit in the net. Once you’re older it’s a lot harder to become better at these things.

Or maybe this is just cope. Idk.

And stop accepting crap effort in the field, no matter what the perceived importance of game is. Have to contribute in 2/3 aspects to be picked.

While I sympathize with all of that as a person, as far the sport is concerned - too bad - figure it out and get better or do something else. This is (or at least should be) a full on meritocracy.

Guys like Dhoni are not from rich backgrounds but are fit and fast. Jadeja is from a solid middle class family (mom was a nurse etc) and he’s exceptional. Too often we have found excuses for lack of commitment and laziness - I was beyond pissed in the Netherlands game with their horrible fielding because they didn’t want to get hurt. But it’s that mindset that it’s not as important as their primary skill and you can take it easy if the game or situation is not important. And that type of attitude seeps in everywhere else whether you want it to or not.

Also the team in the 70s and 80s and before consisted basically of rich Mumbaikers and nobody was looking to India as the standard for fielding or catching then either.

Whatever it takes!!!
Nah.. if the guys get into the system at a young enough age they have all the facilities they would need. We just have to be more ruthless in terms of what is accepted on the field and with the bat/ball, whatever is not your primary skill.

WT20 is not really a thing that's remotely on the same level as the ODI WC though? Or is it? I've never watched that tournament so maybe its my bias.

I won't be paying attention until the Test matches get underway and the next full limited overs game I will see will be in 2027, if the format is still around then.

Not for you and us . But for 90% fans it is still a WC .

Fascinating. How is the excitement in India during those? Viewership numbers similar to ODI WC (obviously different when its not at home)?
Same viewership number or maybe slightly less.
I remember CT 2017 F and WT20 2014 F had similar hype .
