South Africa team selection

Kenneth Viljoen

International Regular
Stubbs, Beyers, Rosier,Breetze,Herman, Second? i know i know we all look at the team make up because we know the numbers, is rosier considered coloured cause Portuguese?
You know , a simple Google check would have erased all your doubts if you have never seen Diego Rosier play before, he's a coloured man .

Here's a pic from his SA U19 daysimages (28).jpeg

A team vs West Indies. Likely picked with taking NZ availability as crucial.
Solid squad, glad that Bedingham is getting a look in.

Interesting to see Piedt back, I believe he came back from the US partly because of the NZ possibility.

Can someone explain to me how ep pass the 3 african players regulations? I read 2 african players 6 caucasian and 3 coloured players. Unless plaatjies is seen as such? only meant to be 5 allowed also for white players.
We shouldn't even play this silly game.

Batting looks interesting, would be good to see some of them in action, unfortunately Zondo will likely play... and I`m not a big fan of the bowling. Would like to have seen some younger bowlers given experience.

I mean it's not the worst team 🤷
That's been the general feeling any time any of us have tried to put together a team made up of players who would potentially be available. A largely untested team for sure, but not one short on talent.

A few players missing from that squad - Sipamla, Stuurman, Qeshile. Not under consideration or is it a case of wanting to look at other players?

And Abbott's still playing country cricket and doing pretty well. Any chance of bringing him back for one last go?

I suppose it depends what you looking for... if you think the primary attack of Rabada, Nortje, Ngidi, Jansen and Coetzee is good enough on the fast bowler route then do you (a) select a few youngsters to give them experience and show there capabilities or (b) are you looking for older players that will step in and do a good job straight away where they fill a gap when there is an injury (for example), but don't expect to play very often?

Qeshile unfortunately just has not done enough with the bat to keep his name in the hat. I had such hope for him. I think that Klaasens will probably keep the wk duties across formats now for a few years.

What is nice for the batsmen that do well, there is probably 3 batting spots available in SA test team, or at least within the near future.

Bowling in that WI squad looks a bit grim. Is this A stuff being played at the same time as the NZ test series and the SA20? If not few guys like swaenpool, stubbs, ferreria and rickelton not getting a game feels odd.

This isn't really a forward-looking squad. It was deliberately selected with the New Zealand test series in mind, so they've gone for players who don't (currently) have SA20 contracts and would be available for that series. That's why I brought up those names, as they're guys who you'd think might have been in the frame.

Its a SA 'A' vs WI 'A' end of the month beginning of Dec... and its seems a very batting focused squad, for potential spots in the SA team. I don't think they considering much from the bowling unit.

It's the end of this month, but they've deliberately gone for players without SA20 contracts as those are the guys they're going to need to pick for the New Zealand series.

I think its forward looking in the batting, not in the bowling. Did Sipamla not get a T20 contract? I thought he had one?!

If he has a contract he didn't play in the SA20. His last T20 was for the Lions last year, which is before it started. He didn't play in the first round of the 4-day competition, so it's possible that he's injured.

Not sure if this exactly fits here but not sure where else to post it. Ben compton from england is playing in the SA domestic fc competition. He originally got a gig in england on the back of runs in zimbabwe at ~25. Weird we don't see more players trying to force themselves into contention in the off season like he has nowadays.

Not following you can you explain better force by doing what? Force what?

Force themselves into state selection. There's plenty of Daniel solway's in Australia, as an example, who are definitely good enough to be playing shield cricket but can't get a gig. Why None of those guys try and get deals in the windies, or SA, or anything like that in the off season confuses me.

Yeah Sipamla will be on that NZ trip if he is fit. I genuinely rate him. I think he would be a starting quick for a few Test nations.
