Attacking the bat with turn from bowling slower is a bit more of a recent addition to his arsenal. So maybe we will see more FC success from him.

He hasn't really had this total control of it until recently. He has had a few games this World Cup where he seems to be the only spinner able to get something out of the pitch, which against far bigger turners of the ball is pretty interesting.
Yeah he was looking promising like so for ND in the PS last season. Really slowed it up. Combined with his improved batting he is actually a good pick for Bangladesh imo

Timely warning shot from Santner against preparing the surface of Mars for the semi too (as much as I would enjoy that game - we need a 150 v 150).

Also I choose to believe that was Ashley Bach with the beard in the captains hat doing a little dance for the wicket in the crowd.

Why doesn't santner bowl like this in tests
Athlai's answer is right, though also
- he's usually taking his wickets the same way Vettori used to, either being attacked or at least played with hard hands. In Tests the batsman can just sit on him and wait, like they did with Vettori.
- he became a fixture in NZ white-ball sides pretty young, so never really established himself in FC cricket
- NZ is not a fun place for spin bowlers

Santa's test issue in the past was he was a control bowler that was easily milked for 2-4 an over. That's fine in an ODI and brilliant in T20, but his great skill at enforcing an upper cap on his economy rate came at the expense of developing consistenty dangerous bowling. In test matches batsmen can just shut down the game and essentially not play, so you need to force your way through.

Santner has looked more dangerous in this tournament so hopefully he is turning a corner.

Seems like he's actually developed his game which is kind of unusual for a Kiwi spinner that's already a squad staple.

I was genuinely looking forward to more Santa vs Fakhar the other day. Reckon Fakhar would biff him for six and Santa would hoop one to invite another. Always seems like he has a plan.

Sodhi though just looked shook

They're usually not given the opportunity. If you're dumped back to the Shield, then barring the late March 2 game party you're essentially slinking back to hard mode where Colin Munro is waiting for you on a true surface.

Craig was thrown out very quickly after Australia and Tastle was never trusted to begin with. Santner, Ajaz and Sodhi are the first group who are getting the chance to show something more. Santner has gotten more aggressive, Ajaz has adjusted his run up and Sodhi is the finest predator in nature so it will be interesting to see what they've all done.

Just mentioned on TMS, if SL were bowled out for 150 and NZ got them in 25 overs, Pakistan would need to beat England by about 270 runs.
