Lol in case everyone didn't already know Shakib is objectively a terrible person

Mathews not fully without blame though. He shouldn't have tried to get down those extra 3 cheeseburgers before going out to bat

I can’t imagine the icc would have punished the umpire for refusing to give that out secondary to safety issue.

also I’m thinking if they would have tried that against India in an Indian ground…..
This is the main point, for me. If he forgot his box...actually, bad example. If he forgot his lucky red hanky, then off you go. But this is a life-saving device.

That's also a good point, he wouldn't have dared try it against India at home. He's probably the only captain that would have upheld it, too.

I have the full replay, let me time the whole thing.
Do it. I've seen people state vastly differing times. The playing conditions state:
40.1.1 After the fall of a wicket or the retirement of a batter, the incoming batter must, unless Time has been called, be ready to receive the ball or for the other batter to be ready to receive the next ball within 2 minutes of the dismissal or retirement. If this requirement is not met, the incoming batter will be out, Timed out.

The Wheel is Forever
Do it. I've seen people state vastly differing times. The playing conditions state:
This is the timeline:
  • Time 0 (3:18:57 of my feed): batter out
  • 1 minute 27 seconds: Angelo Mathews is out in the middle and "fist bumps" his partner.
  • 1 minute 50 seconds: He is at his batting crease
  • 1 minute 53 seconds: His strap breaks
  • 2 minutes 24 seconds: Shakib goes over to Matthews and the umpires, asking what is going on, and Matthews shows him the broken strap
  • 2 minutes 50 seconds: Umpire takes one look back at Bangladesh, walks over to Matthrews sheepishly with his hands out and shrugs his shoulder
  • 3 minutes: Matthews seems pissed. Likely Shakib has insisted on the appeal
  • 3 minutes and 16 seconds: Runner has brought the new helmet to Matthews

I remember a test match in the 80s - England v West Indies.

Debutant opening bat Paul Terry got his hand broken and retired hurt unlikely to take any further part.

However England were later 9 wickets down in that innings and Allan Lamb was 99 not out so they quickly padded up Terry again to go to the non strikers end to give Lamb a chance to get his century(which he did).

It took longer than the two or three minutes that was allowed back then so WIs captain Clive Lloyd would have been within his right to appeal. He didn't.

Clive Lloyd is a gentleman.

I followed Shakib through out his career and can tell he does not give a single **** about the incident. In his mind he did what he did and he does not care at all what others think about him without any doubt. All these years I got the same impression about him. SL should have really gone out there blazing all guns over BD after this and winning from there would have been a solid statement than making grumpy faces.

...why wouldn't you put your helmet on before heading out though? Like this obviously sucks but as a sport that has many issues with time wasting I don't have an issue with erring on the side of harshness here to avoid future tactical gear malfunctions
Gloves box and helmet are always put on during the walk out. He maybe should have put it on while on the way but it's hot and probably wanted to keep it off as long as possible.
